Waltz King aka John Abercrombie

Waltz King aka John Abercrombie, is a tune composed by Andy LaVerne for his longtime friend and musical colleague guitarist John Abercrombie. John passed away on August 22, 2017, a profound loss for all his friends, and the entire jazz community. The tune was first performed by the John Abercrombie Organ Trio (Dan Wall organ, Adam Nussbaum drums) at the Village Vanguard in the 1990`s. Soon after, John and Andy recorded a quartet version of Waltz King on their CD "Now It Can Be Played". John, composer of many classic jazz waltzes, is the Waltz King. This video performance by the Bob DeVos Quartet (Bob DeVos guitar, Andy LaVerne piano, Steve LaSpina bass, Jason Tiemann drums) was recorded at Small`s on Sept. 2, 2017, and is dedicated to John Abercrombie.
